Bochum Welt

The name is a telescope: Bochum, plus the German word for “world”. That is what Gianluigi Di Costanzo called the project that in 1994 landed him in Aphex Twin’s Rephlex catalogue — eight records over the following years — and in the middle of a myth: the NME once suggested Bochum Welt might be one of Aphex’s ghost projects. What followed asked nobody’s permission: ‘Robotic Operating Buddy’ named one of the fifteen best electronica albums of 2009 by The Wire, an EP with Drexciya’s Gerald Donald, work with Joshua Eustis of Telefon Tel Aviv, sound design for Thomas Dolby’s Headspace, the music for Jil Sander’s Milan show. ‘Mixes’, out this year, is the latest chapter.
